"You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. “Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth." Isaiah 12:1-5
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
How does one both glorify God and enjoy Him forever? Can the two be separated? One cannot glorify God without enjoyment, or it is merely lip service (Isaiah 29:13). One cannot enjoy God without bringing Him glory, for that is not enjoyment of God, but self, which is idol worship (Romans 1:25).
So how does one do both simultaneously? The answer is the Gospel. The good news of God, graciously and lovingly reconciling sinners through the life, death and resurrection of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, forgiving them of all their sins, and imputing to them His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:19-21) received through faith by His Spirit, is the what that changes sinners to saints, disobedient creatures into obedient children, no longer enemies, but lovers of God. God is no longer the Judge, but our Heavenly Father who loves His covenant people. Jesus Christ is a wonderful Savior and Lord. The Holy Spirit is with His Church. Do you believe in this glorious gospel? Do you know the love of God? The grace of our Savior? The Communion of the Holy Spirit? Come, sinner or saint, you are welcome here. Believe in this gospel! Glorify and enjoy our Triune God!
